Relief Painting Easter Art

We had fun with this easy {little project} for teaching about relief painting.

To make {this little project}, we used:

paint in bottle caps-one color per cap
painter's tape
fancy scissors
printed egg paper
stickers (foam work well)

The painter's tape with the fancy scissors helped define the space for each color.

Then the kids just picked their stickers and added one color of paint for each section.

After the paint dried we removed the painter's tape and foam stickers:

They were surprised to find all that white space still there.
What a nice {little} surprise!

Party in the Playroom: Furniture Makeover

Slide1

I always love a good "makeover."  It's so rewarding to see the change from the "before" to the "after" and makes you feel like the work was worth the effort.

That's just how {This Little Project} for the playroom went.  A little spray paint can QUICKLY work wonders.  I had some little chairs and table on hand that we have had for years.  My kids love them, but they were not cute!

I love these little wooden chairs.  They don't tip and they can hold any size kid.  They are super sturdy! But they were this ugly brown color.  The photo shows some yellow paint on them--I almost forgot to take the "before" photo!

The little table was red, yellow, and blue.  Not cute.  And did not match the rest of the playroom at all.  You know something isn't cute when your husband tries to store these in the garage instead of letting your kids play with them!

So...I gave them a nice coat of spray paint...and they look totally different!

And now the kid furniture doesn't mysteriously disappear to the attic or garage anymore!

Ellie was sure that I made {this little project} just for her.  She sat right down with a cup of cheerios to try it out!

And it looks soooooo much better now in the playroom and with the playhouse.
I love doing projects that get used.  And this one has a lot of new life in it now :)

So next time you are ready to throw something out, consider a can of paint instead!

Buffet to Media Center

Would you believe that this:

Started out looking like this?

I love before and after photos because you can really see the fruits of your labor!

We have a long and narrow family room and needed a cabinet to hold the dvd player and dvd's. I couldn't find the right size of media center anywhere at the store or online. Then I realized that the size and height of the space was perfect for a "buffet" cabinet. I found this one for $20 on craigslist.

I haven't ever refinished anything before so I was nervous about how "little" this project was going to be. But I was also excited to give it a try. I figured if it didn't work out, I was only out $20, right?

Sanding the top smooth and a coat of primer took one Saturday. Then 2 coats of paint, and a board nailed to the bottom of the sides on the next Saturday brought it to this:
(The funny lines on the left of the cabinet are just a reflection from the tv).

It's just the "pop" of red I was hoping for in that room.

The drawers are perfect for holding dvds and when we need the player, we just crack open the door on the side.

And it goes great with the new pillow slip-covers that I just finished. One {Little Project} at a time...our house is finally coming together!

A Blue Room into a Girl Room for Under $10

We recently moved into a new house. The room that was for the girls was blue. I wanted to make it a little more girly for my girls without having to repaint the whole room or spend a lot of time and money.

We decided to make the blue into a sky by painting clouds on the top of the walls and make it girly by painting flowers up the sides. I bought a few different colors of acrylic paint at the craft store for the colors and a cup cozy for $.98 to make the circles for the flowers.

The girls love their 'new' room and so do we!
What quick fix projects have you done to your room?
